Looks like Aditya Dhar isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Fresh off the massive success of Dhurandhar, the filmmaker has now been approached to direct a grand biopic on Lachit Borphukan, the legendary Ahom general who famously led Assam to victory in the Battle of Saraighat. And if this project comes together, it could be one of the biggest historical films India has ever seen.
The Assam Government Wants Aditya Dhar
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed during a Facebook Live session that he has personally reached out to Aditya Dhar to helm the ambitious project. According to the CM, initial conversations have been positive, and Dhar is expected to visit Assam in August to discuss the film in greater detail.
Who Was Lachit Borphukan?
Lachit Borphukan is celebrated as one of Assam’s greatest military commanders. He is best known for leading the Ahom army to a historic victory over the Mughal forces in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat, making him a symbol of courage, leadership, and resilience in Indian history. The proposed biopic aims to introduce his story to audiences across India and around the world.
Will Aditya Dhar Say Yes?
While nothing has been officially signed yet, the Assam CM made it clear that the government hopes Dhar takes charge of the project. However, if he’s unavailable, they’ll approach another filmmaker. The goal remains the same: to create a large-scale cinematic tribute worthy of Lachit Borphukan’s legacy.
