Bollywood’s upcoming romantic drama Cocktail 2 has barely begun its music rollout and controversy has already entered the chat. The film’s newly released track Mashooqa, composed by Pritam, is being accused online of sounding strikingly similar to an Italian song and social media users are debating whether it’s inspiration, coincidence, or straight-up copying.
Why People Are Calling Out Mashooqa
Soon after the song dropped online, users on X, Instagram, and Reddit started comparing Mashooqa to an Italian track called Tu sei by artist Gabriele Corsi. Several clips highlighting similar melodies and musical arrangements quickly went viral, leading to accusations that the Bollywood song heavily resembles the original composition.
Pritam And The “Inspired Music” Debate Returns Again
This isn’t the first time Pritam’s music has sparked online discussions around similarities with international tracks. Over the years, the composer has often faced accusations of borrowing tunes, while fans simultaneously defend him for adapting global sounds into mainstream Bollywood music successfully. The internet has once again revived that exact debate after Mashooqa released.
But The Song Is Still Trending Hard
Interestingly, despite the controversy, Mashooqa is performing strongly online. The romantic visuals, glamorous styling, and catchy hook have already helped the track gain massive traction across reels and short-form content platforms. Which honestly proves that controversy and virality often move together in Bollywood music culture now.
Cocktail 2 Is Already Carrying Huge Expectations
Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Ibrahim Ali Khan in lead roles. As a sequel to the cult-favourite Cocktail starring Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty, the film already entered production with extremely high audience expectations around both music and storytelling.
Fans Online Are Completely Divided
While some listeners believe the similarities are impossible to ignore, others argue Bollywood music has always blended global influences with Indian commercial sound. A large section of fans are simply saying the song “sounds good regardless” and don’t seem too bothered by the allegations.
Know Buddys Take
At this point, a Pritam song controversy almost feels like a Bollywood tradition.
But regardless of the debate, Mashooqa has already achieved the one thing every film soundtrack wants: people are talking about it nonstop. Whether for the music or the controversy… the song is winning attention either way.
