The Ramayana VFX debate just got another response, this time from Ranbir Kapoor himself. After the film’s trailer sparked online criticism, with some viewers claiming that certain visuals looked AI-generated, Ranbir has defended the team’s work and questioned how quickly people are dismissing the effort behind the film. Here’s what happened:

The VFX Became A Talking Point

Since the trailer dropped, Ramayana has faced plenty of discussion online around its CGI and visual effects. Some viewers criticised the visuals, while others went as far as suggesting that parts of the film were created using AI. The debate quickly became one of the biggest talking points around the trailer.

Ranbir Defends The Team

Ranbir Kapoor has now addressed the criticism, saying it is “slightly funny” that people assume the film has simply used AI for its visuals. He pointed out that a huge amount of work goes into creating the VFX for a project of this scale and that the process involves artists and technicians working extensively behind the scenes.

“People Think Someone’s Just Used AI”

Ranbir also spoke about how the rise of AI-generated content has changed the way audiences perceive visual effects. According to him, because people now see increasingly realistic AI-generated videos online, there is a tendency to assume that sophisticated cinematic visuals must have been created the same way.

Namit Malhotra Also Responds

Producer Namit Malhotra has also addressed the criticism, stressing that Ramayana is not simply an AI-generated project. The film’s visual effects are being handled by DNEG, with a large team working on the ambitious adaptation. Malhotra has previously emphasised the scale and international ambitions of the project.

The Makers Know The VFX Is Being Watched Closely

Director Nitesh Tiwari has also acknowledged the online conversation around the visuals and said the team is continuing to work on the film. With Ramayana: Part 1 scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release, the VFX process is still an important part of getting the final film ready.

KnowBuddys Take

The internet saw CGI and immediately went, “AI?” Ranbir’s response is basically asking everyone to wait before judging the final product. With Ramayana being one of the most ambitious Indian films ever attempted, the real VFX verdict probably belongs to the big screen, not a compressed trailer playing on a phone.
