Well…Leave it to Anurag Kashyap to say the quiet part out loud. After Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj was taken down from ZEE5 within days of its release, Kashyap reacted strongly on social media. The filmmaker questioned the decision and even urged people to watch the film “even if pirated,” a statement that has sparked a fresh wave of debate online.

“The More You Ban Something…”

Kashyap first shared a post saying that banning content only makes people more curious to watch it. He admitted he wasn’t even planning to watch Satluj initially, but the controversy surrounding its removal made him want to see what the film was all about. He later followed it up with another post that read, “Plz sab log dekho, pirate karo par dekho.”

The Film’s Journey Has Been Anything But Easy

Satluj, formerly titled Punjab ’95, is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film spent years facing certification hurdles before finally releasing on ZEE5. However, it was removed from the platform within 48 hours after government intervention citing security concerns, reigniting conversations around censorship and artistic freedom.

Not Everyone Agrees With The Piracy Remark

While many filmmakers and fans have supported Kashyap’s criticism of the takedown, his suggestion to watch pirated copies has also drawn criticism. Separately, Satluj writer Niren Bhatt urged audiences to wait for the film’s official return instead of turning to piracy, saying the makers always wanted people to experience the film through legitimate channels.

The Internet Is Split

As expected, social media has chosen sides. Some users are praising Kashyap for speaking openly about censorship, while others believe encouraging piracy crosses a line, regardless of the circumstances. One thing’s for sure… The conversation has now become much bigger than the movie itself.

Know Buddys Take

Here’s the tea. Questioning censorship? That’s a conversation worth having. Encouraging piracy? That’s where opinions start to split. Anurag Kashyap has once again sparked a debate that goes far beyond cinema, and whether you agree with him or not, one thing is certain, Satluj has become one of the most talked-about films of the year… even when people can’t officially watch it.
