Imagine… Shah Rukh Khan says yes to your script. And the movie still never gets made. Sounds unreal, but that’s exactly what happened to filmmaker Ahmed Khan. In a recent interview, he revealed that his actual directorial debut was supposed to be a film titled Sabr, with Shah Rukh Khan not only producing it but also starring in it. Unfortunately, the project never made it to the sets.
“Shah Rukh Wanted To Do It”
Ahmed shared that when he narrated the script to Shah Rukh, the superstar immediately liked it and expressed his interest in doing the film. At the time, Shah Rukh had planned to launch two new directors under his banner, with Sabr being one of those projects. It looked like everything was falling into place, until scheduling got in the way.
Farah Khan’s Film Came First
So, what changed? According to Ahmed, Shah Rukh had already made a commitment to Farah Khan to back her directorial debut. Staying true to that promise, SRK prioritised Farah’s project, which eventually became Main Hoon Na. Ahmed admitted he was eager to start filming, but he also respected Shah Rukh for honouring a commitment he’d made long before.
No Bad Blood, Just Good Timing Gone Wrong
Despite the missed opportunity, Ahmed has only positive things to say about Shah Rukh. He recalled being deeply impressed by the actor’s honesty and loyalty, explaining that while the film never happened, SRK’s integrity left a lasting impression on him. Honestly… That’s a rare Bollywood story where the plot twist isn’t drama, it’s keeping your word.
Know Buddys Take
Here’s the tea. Bollywood is full of “what if” stories. But this one really stings. A Shah Rukh Khan film. A script he loved. A debut that almost happened. And yet… One promise changed the entire timeline. Who knows? Maybe Sabr would’ve become another SRK classic. We’ll never know, but it’s definitely one of Bollywood’s biggest “what could’ve been” moments.
