Indian audiences will see a slightly different version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Ahead of its theatrical release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared the Marvel film with a UA 13+ certificate, but not before ordering a few edits, including the removal of an eight-second kissing scene between Tom Holland and Zendaya.
What Exactly Was Changed?
Apart from trimming the romantic sequence, the CBFC also instructed the makers to mute certain expletives in multiple scenes. The board further directed the inclusion of anti-liquor health warnings during scenes featuring alcohol consumption before granting the film its certificate for Indian audiences.
Marvel’s Next Big Swing
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Sadie Sink, with Peter Parker navigating a brand-new chapter after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Fans React To The CBFC Decision
News of the deleted scene quickly sparked conversations online, with Marvel fans debating the necessity of the edit. While some believe the changes are minor, others questioned why a brief romantic moment needed to be removed ahead of the film’s Indian release.
Know Buddys Take
Marvel fans were ready for every moment of Peter and MJ’s reunion. Losing just eight seconds may not change the story, but it’s enough to reignite the long-running conversation around film censorship and how global releases are sometimes experienced differently across countries.
