Nearly two decades after Awarapan, Mohit Suri is getting emotional about the film that started a very special chapter in his career. With Awarapan 2 now gearing up for release, the filmmaker shared the trailer on Instagram along with a heartfelt note about his memories of the original film, Emraan Hashmi and the new team taking the story forward.

Awarapan 2 Brings Back Old Memories

Mohit Suri described Awarapan 2 as a “long-lost love” and “an old friend”, saying the trailer brought back several memories for him. The filmmaker directed the original Awarapan in 2007, which starred Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit and eventually developed a cult following despite not being a major box-office success.

Mohit Suri Praises The New Team

While Suri is not directing the sequel, he expressed his support for director Nitin Kakkar and the team behind Awarapan 2. He said he has “passed on the baton” and is now waiting to see what the new team has created with the sequel.

Emraan Hashmi Is Still His Hero

The most emotional part of Suri’s message was reserved for Emraan Hashmi. Addressing the actor, Suri called him his “hero” and said he always will be, while expressing confidence that Hashmi has given Awarapan 2 his all, just as he did with the original film.

Disha Patani Gets A Shout-Out Too

Suri also praised Disha Patani, who stars alongside Emraan Hashmi in the sequel, and wished the cast and crew luck ahead of the film’s release.

Awarapan 2 Is Almost Here

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit nearly 20 years after the original. The sequel is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14, 2026.
