Esha Deol is making her return to the comedy genre with Malamaal Weekly 2, joining a star-studded cast that includes Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav and Elvish Yadav. The actor says the film arrived at exactly the right time after two very different projects.
Esha Wanted A Complete Comic Caper
After working on the horror-comedy Ghungat and Telugu film SYG, Esha said she was looking for something “fun, light-hearted and full of laughter.” Malamaal Weekly 2 fit the bill perfectly.
Comedy Is Familiar Territory
Esha has previously appeared in comedies including No Entry, Shaadi No. 1 and One Two Three. She says comedy has always been a genre she enjoys and was keen to return to it.
The Script Won Her Over
According to Esha, the screenplay was one of the biggest reasons she signed the film. She described the script as “absolutely hilarious” and said she believes audiences will enjoy the film’s focus on fun and entertainment.
A Big Ensemble Cast
The sequel features an expansive ensemble, with Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav returning to the franchise alongside Esha, Elvish Yadav and several new additions. The film is being directed by Amit Joshi and is expected to begin shooting in November 2026.
Carrying Forward The Malamaal Weekly Legacy
The original Malamaal Weekly, released in 2006, became a popular comedy with Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav. The sequel will feature a new storyline while retaining the chaotic comic spirit of the original.
KnowBuddys Take
