Sometimes getting rejected from one role turns out to be the reason you land another. Nitish Sharma, who makes his acting debut as Shatrughan in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, has opened up about his unexpected journey to the film. The actor revealed that he had initially auditioned for Lakshman but was eventually replaced by another actor. Here’s what happened:

Nitish Originally Auditioned For Lakshman

Before being cast as Shatrughan, Nitish Sharma had auditioned for the role of Lakshman. He eventually lost the part, with the makers opting for an established actor. Ravie Dubey was later cast as Lakshman alongside Ranbir Kapoor’s Ram.

He Didn’t Hold A Grudge

Rather than seeing the rejection as a setback, Nitish said he understood the decision. He acknowledged that Ramayana was always going to feature established names in several major roles and said he had no complaints about how the casting unfolded.

Then Came Shatrughan

The story took an unexpected turn when Nitish was offered the role of Shatrughan, one of Lord Ram’s younger brothers. What initially felt like losing an opportunity eventually became his entry into one of the most ambitious Indian films currently in production.

“Lord Rama Chose Me”

Nitish has described his casting as something that happened almost divinely. After losing the earlier role, getting cast as Shatrughan made him feel that perhaps this was the part he was meant to play.

He’s Sharing The Screen With A Huge Cast

Nitish joins a massive ensemble that includes Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Yash as Ravana. For a newcomer, making an acting debut in a project of this scale is quite the introduction to Bollywood.

He auditioned for Lakshman, lost the role and still ended up inside Ramayana. Sometimes the role you don’t get is just the plot twist before the one you were actually meant for. Nitish Sharma’s Shatrughan journey already sounds like a story worth watching.
