Well… The cameras have stopped rolling, but the plot twist has only just begun. Just days after Kangana Ranaut wrapped shooting for Queen 2, the film has found itself in serious legal trouble. Phantom Studios has reportedly filed a ₹250 crore lawsuit against JioStar, alleging that the sequel is an “unauthorised” continuation of the 2014 blockbuster Queen and infringes on its intellectual property rights.

Why Is Phantom Studios Suing?

According to reports, Phantom Studios claims it owns 50% of the intellectual property rights to Queen, including the rights to create sequels and derivative works. The production house alleges that it never gave consent for Queen 2 to be developed. Reports also state that Phantom had issued a public notice and held multiple rounds of communication with JioStar and director Vikas Bahl before deciding to move the matter to the Bombay High Court.

The Film Had Just Wrapped Shooting

Ironically, the lawsuit arrived just after Queen 2 completed principal photography and entered post-production. The sequel reunites Kangana Ranaut with director Vikas Bahl, who also helmed the original Queen. While fans were waiting for teaser updates, they got courtroom updates instead.

What Happens Next?

As of now, JioStar has not publicly responded to the allegations. Whether the legal dispute delays the film’s release, or gets resolved before then, remains to be seen. For now, the sequel’s future depends as much on legal proceedings as it does on post-production.

Know Buddys Take

Here’s the tea. Sequels usually have fans arguing over casting. Queen 2 has people arguing over copyright. If the allegations are resolved, fans can go back to discussing Rani’s next chapter. Until then… The biggest battle isn’t happening in the movie. It’s happening in court.
