Manoj Bajpayee has looked back fondly on his brief but memorable stint in Yash Chopra’s Veer-Zaara. The actor revealed that he spent only three days shooting for the film, but the experience remained special because it gave him the opportunity to work with a filmmaker he had always wanted to collaborate with.

1. Manoj spent just three days on Veer-Zaara

Manoj recalled that his shoot for Veer-Zaara was surprisingly short.

He spent one day at Film City and two days in Amritsar, where he filmed two or three sequences for the movie.

Despite the limited shooting schedule, the experience left a lasting impression on him.

2. Working with Yash Chopra was the real attraction

For Manoj, the biggest reason to take up the role wasn’t its size but the person behind the camera.

He said he had always wanted to work with Yash Chopra, and simply getting the opportunity to face the camera under the legendary filmmaker’s direction was enough for him.

Manoj also recalled Chopra’s honesty about the kind of films he made and the roles he generally offered.

3. Yash Chopra was completely candid with him

Manoj remembered Chopra telling him quite honestly that he didn’t make films for actors like him.

Rather than taking offence, the actor appreciated the filmmaker’s straightforwardness.

For Manoj, Chopra’s honesty was something he respected deeply, particularly because the director never made promises he couldn’t keep.

4. Chopra treated Manoj like a special guest

The actor also remembered the warmth he received from Yash Chopra during the Amritsar schedule.

Chopra reportedly organised an evening gathering and told everyone that Manoj was a guest, encouraging the team to come together.

From food to the party, Manoj said the filmmaker took great care of him and made those few days memorable.

5. He wasn’t expecting the role to become so iconic

At the time, Manoj wasn’t expecting his small role to make a major impact.

Veer-Zaara was a huge Yash Chopra production with Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta at its centre, and the film was already highly anticipated.

Manoj said he expected little from his part but was simply happy to be involved in the project.

6. His character Raza left a lasting impression

Manoj played Raza Shirazi, Zaara’s fiancé, whose actions become an important obstacle in Veer and Zaara’s love story.

Although his screen time was limited, the character became one of the most memorable parts of the film and has continued to be discussed by audiences years later.

Yash Raj Films officially lists Manoj Bajpayee among the film’s special appearances alongside the ensemble cast.

7. A small role became part of pop culture

The biggest surprise for Manoj came later.

He said he wasn’t initially aware just how much the character had resonated with audiences until people began telling him about its impact.

Released in 2004, Veer-Zaara went on to become a cult favourite, and Manoj’s brief appearance remains an important part of the film’s emotional and dramatic conflict.

Three days on set. A handful of scenes. A character people still remember more than two decades later.

That’s the wild thing about acting.

Sometimes you don’t need 30 scenes to leave an impression. You just need the right character, the right filmmaker and the right performance.

For Manoj Bajpayee, the real win wasn’t even the size of the role.

It was getting to say:

“I worked with Yash Chopra.”

And honestly, that’s one Bollywood memory worth keeping forever.
