The internet had opinions. Huma Qureshi had a response. As Kiara Advani continues to face online criticism over her intimate scenes with Yash in the song Tabaahi from Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, co-star Huma Qureshi has come out strongly in her support, calling the backlash “sick” and “disgusting.” She also questioned why women continue to be judged more harshly than men for the same on-screen performances.

‘Women Will Have The Last Laugh’

Speaking on Yuvaa’s Be A Man, Yaar! podcast, Huma said there was no point trying to justify creative choices to people determined to judge them. She added that the actresses and the female director behind Toxic would “have the last laugh,” expressing confidence that the film itself would answer its critics.

The Double Standards Debate

The controversy began after the release of Tabaahi, with a section of social media users criticising Kiara’s romantic scenes with Yash. Many pointed out that while Kiara who is married and a mother—was heavily trolled, Yash, who is also married, faced comparatively little criticism. The difference in reactions has reignited discussions about gender bias in the entertainment industry.

‘Toxic’ Continues To Make Headlines

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups stars Yash, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth. Even before its release, the film has remained in the spotlight for its music, scale and the conversations surrounding its promotional material.

Know Buddys Take

Cinema has always reflected society and sometimes, society reflects its own double standards.Huma Qureshi’s comments have shifted the conversation beyond one song, raising a broader question about whether female actors are still judged differently than their male counterparts for similar on-screen performances.
