Mumbai is gearing up for one of the biggest days of Ganeshotsav 2026, with thousands of devotees expected to take part in Ganesh idol immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi. To manage the crowds and maintain security across the city, Mumbai Police has planned a massive deployment of more than 24,000 personnel on September 25.

1. Over 24,000 Personnel To Be Deployed

Mumbai Police has finalised an extensive security plan for Anant Chaturdashi, with more than 24,000 personnel expected to be deployed across the city.

The deployment will cover key immersion points, procession routes and other crowded areas as Mumbai witnesses the final major wave of Ganesh idol immersions.

2. Anant Chaturdashi Falls On September 25

Anant Chaturdashi, marking the conclusion of Ganeshotsav 2026, will be observed in Mumbai on Friday, September 25.

Large-scale processions are expected throughout the city as devotees take their Ganpati idols for immersion. Civic and transport authorities have also made arrangements to manage the expected crowds.

3. Senior Police Officers Part Of The Deployment

The security force includes six Joint Commissioners of Police, nine Additional Commissioners, 38 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 66 Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The deployment also includes 3,213 police officers, 18,940 police personnel and 1,050 trainee police officers.

4. Specialised Forces And Quick Response Teams

Mumbai Police has also deployed specialised units at important locations across the city.

The arrangements include the Rapid Action Force, State Reserve Police Force, Force One, Quick Response Teams, Riot Control Police, Delta units, combat teams and Home Guards. Anti-drone squads are also part of the security plan.

5. Police Issue Safety Advisory

With large crowds expected, Mumbai Police has asked citizens and devotees to remain patient, follow safety instructions and cooperate with officers on duty.

People have also been urged to immediately inform the police if they notice any unattended or suspicious objects. For emergency assistance, citizens can contact the police on 100 or 112.

6. Multiple Immersion Points Across Mumbai

The security arrangements come alongside extensive civic preparations for the immersion day. The BMC has arranged 383 artificial immersion ponds and 67 designated natural immersion sites across Mumbai.

Under the arrangements in force, idols up to six feet in height, including those made of Plaster of Paris, are required to be immersed in designated artificial ponds or tanks.

7. Mumbai Prepares For The Final Immersion Day

With Anant Chaturdashi bringing the 2026 Ganeshotsav celebrations to a close, Mumbai is preparing for a day of large processions, crowded streets and immersion ceremonies.

The combination of a large police deployment, specialised security teams and civic arrangements is aimed at keeping the movement of devotees and processions organised throughout the city.
