Sequels come with a lot of baggage. The audience walks in with expectations, comparisons are inevitable, and every scene is judged against what came before. Cocktail 2 faces exactly that challenge.

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, the film revisits the classic love triangle formula with a fresh cast, beautiful locations and a modern take on romance. On paper, it has everything going for it. A charming lead cast, good music, stunning visuals and plenty of drama.

The good news? It is entertaining.

The better news? Kriti Sanon absolutely understands the assignment. From the very beginning, Cocktail 2 knows what kind of film it wants to be. It doesn’t try to reinvent romance. Instead, it focuses on delivering a glossy, emotional entertainer packed with heartbreak, chemistry and moments that are designed to stay with the audience.

Shahid Kapoor brings his usual charm to the screen and effortlessly carries several scenes. Rashmika Mandanna adds warmth and sincerity to the story, while Kriti Sanon emerges as the standout performer of the film. Whether it’s the emotional scenes or the lighter moments, she leaves a lasting impression.

Visually, the film is a treat. The locations are stunning, the cinematography looks polished and the soundtrack does exactly what a romantic drama soundtrack should do. There are songs that work within the story and a few that will probably find a permanent place in playlists.

But here’s the thing.

Cocktail 2 is at its best when you stop comparing it to Cocktail. The original film worked because the relationships felt messy, real and deeply emotional. The friendships mattered. The heartbreak hit harder. The characters stayed with audiences long after the film ended.

Cocktail 2 never quite reaches those emotional highs.

The writing occasionally feels safe, some conflicts resolve too conveniently and the love triangle doesn’t always carry the emotional weight it needs. There are moments that should leave a lasting impact but end up feeling rushed instead. That doesn’t make the film bad. In fact, far from it.

Cocktail 2 is an enjoyable watch that delivers exactly what most audiences will expect from a modern romantic entertainer. It is stylish, emotional, funny in parts and filled with enough drama to keep viewers invested.

The problem is that the Cocktail name comes with expectations. Fair or unfair, audiences will compare the two films, and that’s where this sequel struggles the most. If viewed as a standalone romantic drama, Cocktail 2 works perfectly well. If viewed as the successor to one of Bollywood’s most loved modern rom-coms, the conversation becomes a little more complicated.

Know Buddy’s Take

Cocktail 2 is fun, visually gorgeous and powered by a cast that genuinely tries its best to make the story work. Kriti shines. Shahid brings the charm. The music does its job. The vibes are definitely there. But once the credits roll, the original Cocktail still sits comfortably on the throne. Not quite iconic, but definitely entertaining.
