Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha producer Prakash Mahobiya has alleged that his film faced a sustained negative marketing campaign ahead of and during its theatrical release. While he indirectly pointed towards the makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana, Mahobiya stopped short of directly accusing the team, saying he did not know for sure but had been told about the alleged campaign.
1. Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha Struggled At The Box Office
Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha arrived in theatres on September 25, 2026, but failed to make a significant impact at the box office.
The film had already faced criticism before its release, particularly around its casting and visual effects. According to figures cited by Mid-Day from Sacnilk, the film collected around Rs 46 lakh worldwide during its theatrical run.
2. Producer Prakash Mahobiya Claims Negative Marketing
Following the film’s poor theatrical performance, producer Prakash Mahobiya spoke about what he believes went wrong.
In an interview with India Today, Mahobiya alleged that the film faced “negative marketing throughout” and claimed that the team did not get enough opportunity to reach its intended audience.
He argued that audiences who actually watched the film enjoyed it, but many potential viewers never got the chance to form their own opinion.
3. He Hints At A Bigger Ramayan Film
Mahobiya suggested that the alleged negative campaign could be connected to another big-budget film based on the same epic.
While he did not name the project in his initial comments, the reference has been interpreted as pointing towards Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
However, Mahobiya has not established that the Ramayana team was responsible for the alleged campaign.
4. YouTubers And Influencers Allegedly Spread Negative Buzz
The producer further claimed that negative comments and misinformation about his film were circulated through YouTubers, influencers and other online platforms.
When asked directly whether he was accusing Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra’s team, Mahobiya reportedly said he did not know for sure and that this was simply what his team had been told.
There is currently no independent evidence establishing the allegation.
5. The Film Had Already Faced Backlash Before Release
The controversy around Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha was not limited to its box office performance.
The film faced criticism over Anjali Arora’s casting as Sita and its VFX even before release. After the film reached theatres, social media users also criticised certain visual details, including a scene involving a member of the Vanar Sena wearing spectacles.
6. The Makers Want To Give The Film Another Chance
Despite the disappointing theatrical run, Mahobiya says the team is not ready to let the film disappear.
The makers are planning a theatrical re-release, although a new release date has not yet been announced. Mahobiya said the bigger disappointment was not the financial loss but that many people did not get an opportunity to watch the film.
7. Ramayana Vs Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha
The two films are based on the same epic but arrive with very different scales and expectations.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra, is being mounted as a two-part large-scale adaptation featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Its first part is scheduled for Diwali 2026, with the second part planned for 2027.
Meanwhile, Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha is hoping its second theatrical run can give audiences a chance to judge the film for themselves.
KnowBuddys Take
The Ramayan cinematic universe is getting more dramatic before the actual Ramayana even arrives.
Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha had a rough theatrical run, and now its producer is pointing towards alleged negative marketing as one of the reasons.
But there is an important distinction: the producer has raised the allegation, not proved it.
Now the film is getting another shot at the box office. Whether audiences give it a second look is the real test.
