Kangana Ranaut is back to clarify her controversial comments about Gen Z, and this time, she says she was never talking about the entire generation. The actor-politician has explained that her earlier “Generation Gutter” remark was directed at the crowd at the Jantar Mantar protest, not Gen Z as a whole.
Kangana Says She Wasn’t Targeting All Of Gen Z
Kangana took to Instagram Stories to clarify her comments after facing backlash for describing some Gen Z protesters as “Generation Gutter.” She argued that Gen Z in India numbers around 30–35 crore, while only a small section of the crowd at Jantar Mantar belonged to that age group.
“More Than Half Were Shabana Azmi-Type People”
Kangana claimed that around 10,000 people had gathered at Jantar Mantar and that more than half were from different age groups. According to her, only around 2,000 people at the gathering were actually Gen Z, which is why she questioned calling it a “Gen Z protest.”
She Says Her Comment Was About The Crowd
Kangana maintained that her earlier criticism was specifically aimed at certain people present at the protest rather than the entire younger generation. She also challenged critics to find a quote where she directly attacked all of Gen Z.
The Original “Generation Gutter” Remark
Kangana had earlier criticised videos from the protests, calling some of the language and behaviour “crass” and describing those involved as “Generation Gutter.” The remarks triggered backlash, with critics accusing her of making a sweeping statement about young people.
Shabana Azmi Was Also At The Protest
The reference to Shabana Azmi comes from the fact that the veteran actor had participated in the Jantar Mantar protest alongside other demonstrators. Kangana’s latest clarification specifically uses Azmi’s age group to argue that the gathering included people from across generations.
KnowBuddys Take
Kangana has clarified the comment, but the internet has already done what it does best: turned one remark into an entire debate. Whether you agree with her clarification or not, one thing is clear: the “Generation Gutter” controversy isn’t disappearing anytime soon.
