Johnny Depp is officially stepping into one of literature’s most iconic roles—but not in the way you’d expect. The Hollywood star is set to play Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a dark fantasy-horror reimagining of Charles Dickens’ timeless classic. The first trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Depp made a surprise appearance in full costume, leaving fans stunned by his dramatic transformation.
A Christmas Carol Like You’ve Never Seen Before
Directed by horror filmmaker Ti West, Ebenezer promises a much darker and more supernatural take on the beloved story. The trailer teases eerie ghostly encounters, unsettling visuals, and a haunted version of Victorian London, while still following Scrooge’s journey through the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
Johnny Depp’s Big Hollywood Return
The film also marks one of Depp’s biggest mainstream Hollywood projects in years. Fans at Comic-Con were treated to a surprise when the actor walked on stage fully dressed as Scrooge, complete with a top hat, cane, grey beard, and hunched posture. His dramatic transformation quickly became one of the event’s most talked-about moments online.
An All-Star Cast Joins The Ghost Story
Alongside Depp, the film features an impressive ensemble including Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, and Tramell Tillman. Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is currently scheduled to hit theatres on November 13, 2026, with Paramount Pictures backing the ambitious adaptation.
