Forget memorising your lines. Apparently… You also have to act with microscopic precision. While talking about his experience filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Tom Holland revealed that acting for IMAX isn’t just about delivering a good performance, it’s about delivering an incredibly subtle one. He also gave a massive shoutout to Nolan’s camera crew, comparing them to an F1 pit crew because of how quickly and flawlessly they worked between takes.

“IMAX Sees Everything”

According to Tom, IMAX cameras capture every tiny facial expression and movement, meaning actors don’t need to exaggerate emotions like they might in other films. Instead, the performances have to feel natural and restrained because the format is so detailed that even the smallest reaction becomes visible on screen. Basically…There’s nowhere to hide.

Nolan’s Camera Crew Was Built Different

Tom couldn’t stop praising the technical team behind The Odyssey. He described the IMAX crew as being like an F1 pit crew, fast, precise, and incredibly efficient. Since IMAX film magazines have limited recording time, every camera reset has to happen in minutes, and according to Tom, the crew handled it with unbelievable speed while helping the actors stay emotionally locked into each scene.

The Odyssey Was A Different Acting Challenge

For Tom, this wasn’t just another blockbuster. Working with Christopher Nolan and shooting entirely on IMAX pushed him out of his comfort zone. He explained that the process demanded complete collaboration between the actors, director, and camera department, making it one of the most technically demanding projects of his career.

Know Buddys Take

Here’s the tea. We all thought Christopher Nolan movies were difficult to watch. Turns out…They’re just as difficult to make. Imagine trying to give the perfect emotional performance while a camera captures every blink, every eyebrow twitch, and every awkward smile. No wonder Nolan’s actors always look so locked in. When IMAX notices everything…Even your acting has to be in 4K.
